Foundation of Establishment
The Penang Land and Mines Office was established following the country's independence in 1957. Its establishment aligns with the requirements of the Constitution and the State Government Enactment of Penang.
The Penang Land and Mines Office is one of the departments under the State Government, with the Director serving as the Head of Department and also acting as the Controlling Officer responsible for managing the department’s financial affairs.
It consists of three divisions: the Director’s Office, Management, and Registration. In carrying out its duties and responsibilities, the Penang Land and Mines Office has established several units, including Management Services, Development, Legal Affairs, Management Audit, Title Registration, Strata Title, Revenue, and Information Technology.

Function
- Serving as the Secretariat to the State Land Committee for processing all land applications.
- Assisting the State Government in formulating State Land Policies.
- Ensuring that land management in the State of Penang is carried out in accordance with the laws and policies set by the government.
- Ensuring that land revenue is collected effectively and systematically.
- Ensuring that land is utilized in accordance with regulations and laws in line with the aim of providing optimal benefits to the people and the government.
- Keeping, maintaining, and updating land ownership records to ensure they are in good, tidy, and secure condition.
