The implementation of 5S was officially declared effective by Y.Bhg. Dato' Hj. Arifin bin Awang, Director of the Penang Land and Mines Office (PTG Pulau Pinang), to be carried out at the Penang Land and Mines Office (PTGPP) starting from April 27, 2011, which coincides with Wednesday, 23 Jamadilawal 1432 Hijrah.
A briefing on 5S for PTGPP was held at Auditorium F, Level 5, KOMTAR, on April 27, 2011, as a 'knowledge sharing' session to share experiences.

5S EVENTS AT PTGPP

The PTG Management Meeting informed that the Quality Division (Management Audit Division) will manage the implementation of 5S at PTG, and the audit date has been postponed from September 2011 to the end of the year. A representative from the Malaysian Productivity Centre (MPC) will be invited for the audit session. Action: Quality Division

Ms. Intan from the Management Services Division of PTGPP sought further information regarding the differences between 5S and 8S implemented at PSUKPP. PSUKPP informed that 5S is permanent and mandatory (especially for certification), while 8S is a practice within 5S used for interacting with PSUKPP's customers.

In the PTGPP Management Meeting, Y. Bhg. Dato' established one day a week, specifically Friday, from 4 to 5 PM, as the day for implementing 5S at PTGPP. (English classes for the involved groups will proceed as usual).

A 5S Coordination Meeting at PTGPP was held on the afternoon of April 27, 2011, in the Main Meeting Room of PTGPP to discuss and coordinate the implementation of 5S at PTGPP. The meeting was attended by heads/representatives of departments, the Deputy Director of PTG(P), and was chaired by Y.Bhg. Dato' Director of PTGPP. The meeting agreed to add 3 more S's to make it 8S as a continuous practice in 5S, namely Ready, Spirit, and Patience. Y.Bhg Dato' Chairman also appointed zone heads and Mr. Norhardi bin Sabri as the 5S Coordinator for PTGPP.

The meeting also decided to implement a 5S competition between zones, starting with the PTGPP Grand Gotong Royong on April 29, 2011, until August 26, 2011.
